What’s Your 26? – Virtual Fundraiser
4th October 2020
One of our supporters Lyndsay Haselhurst has taken up the challenge of running the London 2020 Marathon in aid of Matrix. Due to the current pandemic, this year’s Marathon is virtual, so Lyndsay and a group of friends have decided to walk 26 Miles from Kingston to Guildford to raise money for Matrix! Why don’t you get involved in our London Marathon-inspired virtual fundraiser?
Lyndsay says “I have a daughter in Year 8 who has already benefited from the work Matrix does and it gives me peace of mind to know that someone is regularly in her school to go to for help if needed. To be able to fundraise for Matrix means I’m giving something back. Giving our young people the support and also the tools they need to nurture good mental health is very important!”
The London Marathon is distinctively 26 miles long, “What’s your 26?” is asking you to get creative, get sponsored and complete your own activity in line with the number 26. Activities could range from reading 26 pages of a book to cycling 26 miles or walking 26 miles like Lyndsay! Be as inventive as possible, get sponsored and show us what you are getting up to. All of this will be happening on the same date as this year’s Virtual London Marathon – the 4th of October!
Matrix is dedicated to working with at-risk and disadvantaged young people, helping them to improve their lives, and for young people, catalysing change by nurturing, inspiring, connecting and empowering them to reach their full potential. We work alongside schools as well as supporting young people directly in their own communities. When covid-19 occurred, Matrix quickly responded and adapted to provide a robust safeguard compliant online service. We are now able to offer both face-to-face and online support for those with mild to moderate mental health or emotional well-being needs. We have been able to help 30% more local young people, referred from schools, with this online service. This year we will also be launching our Youth Cafe (co-led by young people) and Social Enterprise Community Cafe.
It’s simple to get involved, all you need to do is sign up and we will send you your individual fundraiser package!
