When lockdown was announced on March 23rd, we were one week away from starting the building development work at Allen House Pavilion ready for a Summer launch of the new Social Enterprise Café and Youth Drop-in!
This was a real blow to the team!
Not only that, but a large portion of Matrix funding now came under jeopardy when all upcoming fundraising events and school workshops were cancelled.
But, 5 weeks later we have been so encouraged by the support from so many in the community, and from receiving 2 emergency grants to keep us ticking over and ensure we can still support young people during this crisis (albeit virtually!).
Cafe Plans Moving Ahead
So now, we are preparing to pick up our tools again! The Café plans are moving ahead. No-one knows when cafés will be able to open their doors again following this crisis, but we intend to be ready. Ready to offer you a tasty lunch sat on the terrace overlooking the gardens, and ready to welcome young people into a space where they can find, friendship, fun and support when they need it!
Get Involved
We will continue to update the blog as we know anymore details. In the meantime we’d love it if you would consider helping us to get there, as we still have a long way to go:
- Can you offer practical skills, such as decorating, making soft furnishings, upcycling furniture, building furniture, or even walls? We have a variety of jobs that we will need volunteers to help with.
- Are you a business that is looking for a way to give back to the community at this time? We have different sponsorship options and skills needs that you could support your community with.
- Would you like to bag your spot on the terrace for afternoon tea, or name a chair? We’d love you to consider supporting our crowdfunding appeal and help us reach our target – you can donate, receive a reward or organise a fundraiser.
