Meet our Intern

Our Youth Team: Hayley (left) with Beth and Charlotte

This year, we’ve created a new and exciting role by adding a Youth Work Intern to our team!

Hayley is helping to facilitate an exciting project across Guildford,  learning how to be a role-model for young people, by being trained and supported to work with young people across Matrix projects. Involved in both schools and community work such as drop-ins and Youth Hub (helping with preparation, planning and delivery), this role helps to make sure that each project runs as smoothly as possible.

We chatted to Hayley so that you could get to know her a little , here’s what went on …

So tell me a bit about yourself

I love to help in any way I can, to give back to the community and be a supporting role-model for those who need it.  I like to horse ride in my spare time.  I’ve also visited the Grand Canyon and met a large variety of celebrities at red carpet events with my mum, including Will Smith!

What have you been doing so far?

It’s only week 2, so I’m still learning the ropes, but I’m super excited to help out with youth work delivery! (She’s already extremely helpful behind the scenes with our youth workers too)!

What do you hope to get out of this year?

I would love to spend this year growing in myself and experiencing brand new things along the way! I want to help vulnerable people in the future and I’ve decided that this internship will really help me to get that journey started, which is amazing!

What made you want to get involved in Matrix?

I learnt about Matrix through a friend at church, who was involved in Ready 4 Action and other projects. Through this I learnt that Matrix does vital work that helps young people across Guildford Borough and loved the idea of helping and giving back to the community.  As I want to be a supporting role-model for young people and those who need an extra helping hand to get started in life, I felt that being an intern with Matrix would be perfect for me as it would allow me to gain the experience to become a youth worker or something along those lines in the future, as well as being able to be part of their mission right now!
